Animal Camp is a special one-week FREE summer experience for children ages 6 to 12 who have had or currently have an adult loved one with cancer. Camp is held from 9am-4pm, Monday through Friday. A different animal theme will be the focus of each week.
In each Animal Camp session children will:
- Have Fun
- Interact with animals and learn about care giving and nurturing
- Interact with other children impacted by cancer in their lives
- Develop awareness of the cycles of life
- Enhance problem solving, coping & communication skills through active play and expressive arts at The Gathering Place

Week 1 6/17-6/21 (Beachwood) Horses at Fieldstone Farm Therapeutic Riding Center
Week 2 6/24-6/28 (Westlake) Horses at Valley Riding Center
Week 3 7/15-7/19 (Westlake) Kittens at Berea Animal Rescue
Week 4 7/22-7/26 (Westlake) Wild Animals at Cleveland Museum of Natural History
Week 5 8/5-8/9 (Beachwood) Wild Animals at Cleveland Museum of Natural History
Pre-registration for Animal Camp is open until all spaces are filled. Animal Camp acceptance and placements are based on the child's cancer or grief needs. First time campers will have priority for camp placement.
