What Our Participants Say About The Gathering Place
My doctors saved my life. The Gathering Place saved my soul. - Becky Body
Participants walk through the doors of The Gathering Place at different points on the cancer journey. Although everyone is dealing with a cancer diagnosis, each individual has a different need and a different style of coping.
Our goal is to meet people where they are and help them cope with the emotional, social, physical, spiritual and social impact of the diagnosis. There is no set menu that a person has to follow. Some of our participants join support groups, some seek out individual support, others participate in hands-on programs like exercise, cooking classes and art therapy. Sometimes the person diagnosed never walks through our doors but his or her family members utilize our services to learn the best way to support their loved one and to cope with the toll the cancer takes on the entire family.
Our participants come from all walks of life, all ages. They represent different ethnicities, various communities throughout Northeast Ohio and beyond and are diagnosed with many different types of cancer. When they connect at The Gathering Place they share the common bond of learning how to live with a cancer diagnosis. Here they learn how to face cancer while still embracing life.
