The Gathering Place Emerging Leaders Council, a group of teen leaders, began in 2019 with four teen members and within months grew to 20+. Today, we have 40 members representing a diverse group of 30+ schools within the greater Cleveland area. The teens involved want to make a difference in the lives of people touched by cancer through the programs and services offered free of charge at The Gathering Place. Many of the teens have been touched by cancer themselves – but not all. Those touched by cancer represent survivors, teens who have a loved one with cancer or who have lost a loved one to cancer. Many members may not have personal connection to cancer, but wish to make a difference in the world and have chosen The Gathering Place to do so.
Emerging Leaders meet monthly for Leadership Development Seminars and activities. Teens are empowered to explore values and learning through service, they develop effective leadership skills including mastering sound communication, goal setting, outreach and fundraising skills as they build their college portfolios.
