At The Gathering Place, we meet participants wherever they are on their cancer journey starting at diagnosis. Some programs offered at The Gathering Place are available to people with specific types of cancer.

Cancer Specific Support Groups

Support group for young women in their 20s, 30s, and 40s with breast cancer. Meets the first Tuesday of every month, 6:30-8:00pm. Facilitator: Susan Marinac, MSSA, LISW-S

Cancer Specific Support Groups

Monthly breast cancer support group for those who are newly diagnosed, in treatment and during follow up care. The group meets the second Thursday of every month, 6:30-7:30pm. Facilitator: Whitney Hadley, MA, MSW, LSW, OSW-C

Cancer Specific Support Groups

Monthly support group for those diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. Meets the third Tuesday of every month, 6:00-7:30pm. Facilitator: Sarah Axner Gilmore | 216-455-1516

Gynecological

Our monthly support group is a place for others sharing a similar gynecological or reproductive cancer experience. This group discusses available treatment options and experiences, plus how to manage side effects including fatigue, menopausal symptoms, neuropathy, changes in weight, body image, sexual health, and benefits of a pelvic floor specialist.

Cancer Specific Support Groups

Monthly support group for women diagnosed with gynecological cancers (non-ovarian). This support group provides a safe space for women to talk about their diagnosis and treatment of gynecologic cancers, side effects, late effects and related thoughts and emotions. Each person's cancer story is different. It can be healing to learn from others, to ask questions and to share ways they have coped. Meets the third Thursday of every month, 6:30-7:30pm. Lung

This monthly support group offers individuals diagnosed with cancer a safe environment to foster connection, access information, and freely express their feelings.

Cancer Specific Support Groups

Monthly support for those diagnosed with lung cancer. This support group will help the individual diagnosed with lung cancer feel more connected, gain information and provide a safe place to express feelings. Meets in Westlake on the fourth Tuesday of every month, 2:00-3:30pm. Facilitator: Susan Marinac, MSSA, LISW-S

Myeloma

This support group takes place every other month and led by our licensed social worker, Mary Fisher-Bornstein. As a participant navigates their treatment, this group provides a space where people can share similar experiences, ways of coping and hear about great resources from professionals.

Oral, Head & Neck

Meeting monthly, our Oral, Head & Neck Cancer peer-to-peer support group provides a safe environment for individuals to connect with others experiencing or have experienced a similar diagnosis and treatment.

Pancreatic

Meeting monthly, our pancreatic support group provides a network for individuals and caregivers. This support group is a safe place to cope with the emotional and physical aspects by providing a space to share feelings, experiences and resources.

Prostate

Our monthly Prostate Partners offers an opportunity for men diagnosed with prostate cancer to learn about treatment options, as well as gain support from talking with other men. Specialists in various fields provide education and information on cutting edge therapies and tools for coping. Prostate Partners offers a safe, comfortable environment for men and their families to address issues regarding diagnosis and treatment.
